1.  Rising water levels due to increased flooding are posing a serious threat to the future of Venice. The local flooding results from several factors. One is “high water,” which occurs in winter when seawater surge into the city. Then, there’s also the problem of subsidence. The unstable foundation on which Venice was built is causing the city’s buildings to sink over time. As if this were not bad enough, the            city must  now also need to deal with the serious effects of climate change. Global warming has resulted in the world’s sea levels rising and has made violent storms more likely.

由於洪水增加而導致的水位上升對威尼斯的未來構成了嚴重威脅。當地的洪水是由幾個因素造成的。一種是「高水位」，它發生在冬季，當海水湧入城市時。然後，還有沉降的問題。威尼斯建造的不穩定基礎導致城市的建築物隨著時間的推移而下沉。似乎這還不夠糟糕，該市現在還必須應對氣候變化的嚴重影響。全球變暖導致世界海平面上升，並使暴風雨的可能性更大。

A combination of these factors is causing frequent flooding in Venice, and the situation is only getting worse. As a matter of fact , in the past century alone, events of flooding have increased from fewer than ten times a year to more than sixty! Some scientists have even predicted that Venice may no longer exist by the 22nd century! 

這些因素的結合導致威尼斯經常發生洪水，而且情況只會越來越糟。事實上，僅在過去的一個世紀里，洪水事件就從每年不到十次增加到六十多次！一些科學家甚至預測，到22世紀，威尼斯可能不再存在！

2.          On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered a famous speech. The following is the summary of his speech.

I am glad to be with you today. A hundred years ago, the slaves were granted freedom. This gave hope to many Blacks who  had been deprived of justice before the decree. But a hundred years later, we still are not free. We are here today to fight against this. We will not be satisfied   as long as  the police hurt us, hotels deny us, poor neighborhoods trap us, or governments stop us from voting. But let us not be depressed. I have a dream that one day this state will be  transformed into  a free one. I have a dream that my children will not be  judged by the color of their skin. I have a dream today!

 

我很高興今天能和你在一起。一百年前，奴隸們備許可了自由。這給許多在法令頒布前被剝奪了正義的黑人帶來了希望。但一百年後，我們仍然不自由。我們今天在這裡與此作鬥爭。只要員警傷害我們，酒店拒絕我們，貧窮的社區困住我們，或者政府阻止我們投票，我們就不會滿意。但是，讓我們不要沮喪。我有一個夢想，有一天這個狀態會變成一個自由的狀態。我有一個夢想，我的孩子不會被他們的膚色所評判。我今天有一個夢想！ 

Had King not delivered this speech, the fate of Blacks in America might have been different. The speech will be  remembered for centuries to come!

  Yutube: 閱讀測驗的 作題目方法 by David Pai   原則上本文不用全部都看，大概看看一下就好了，然後直接看題目，然後找節點   第一 毎個題目都有節點字， 以 AxBxC 表 也就是每一個題目裡面，把它分成 A 乘 B 乘 C   在 ABC 裡面的節點字，就可以找到閱讀測驗裡面的，節點句，節點句就會引出答案句，基本上每一個題目都有節點句跟答案句 第二 若是問 main idea 的話 只需看第一段全部，第二段一半，最後兩段的第一行，含最後一段的第 1,2 行就可以了   第三 原則上往往第一題題目，在文章第一段可以找出答案，第二題在第二段，第三題的第三段，最後一題的最後一段   第四注意 paraphrase 譬如說 happy 的 paraphrase 就是 Joyful , hilarious 題目看到是 Happy 但是答案是 joyful ，兩個都是高興   第五 原則上 absolutely ， never ， always 通常是錯的   第六 注意魚目混珠題，也就是前面的答案是對的中間給你掉的包， 譬如說時間改了啊，地點改了啊 ，標的物改了   ( ＫＡＰＦＨＷ ) P-praphrasing( 注意平行辭匯 ) F-fish （注意魚目混珠題） W-wind （風馬牛不相干） H 1-1 2-2 3-3( 第一題題目，在文章第一段可以找出答案，第二題在第二段 ) K-knot （節點句） A-   answer( 答案句 )
